Your New Favorite Song.

Continuing on the J-tip: Phrases like "black hole of noise," or "shaman summoning the ancient gods," or "exorcism of demons" are bandied about when describing the mighty Keiji Haino, and they're probably all true. (The fact that he's all dressed in black, with a long mane of hair, and sunglasses that never seem to come off, adds to the mystique.) I saw him live in a small club in San Francisco a few years ago and it was like one of the whirlpools from Higuchinsky's Uzumaki had materialized on stage.

What I really wanted to include was a rarity from the Purple Trap box set -- specifically, a track from the Forest Of Spirits project: electronic sighs and mutterings that sounded eerily like a field recording if it could pick up voices from the dead. But not only was it 24 minutes long, it was also atypical of Haino's output. (If one could actually call any of his albums representative, that is: one album-length track, for instance, is composed of a barely-changing sine wave for about 20 minutes, until he finally breaks the tension with his unearthly singing.)

What you get here is a track from the power trio Fushitsusha, from, um, one of their live albums (sorry, it's one of the untitled PSF double albums, maybe 15/16 -- you know, the one with the black-on-black cover). Again, it's unrepresentative, since the standard live track usually goes on for at least 15 minutes -- but it's a good example of their technique: seemingly meandering groove one minute, molten lava and the yammerings of a blind idiot god the next.

Hear it (8.6 mb).

I couldn't vote in the site. I'll just post my votes here for the top singles..

Freddie Aguilar's Anak is deserving to be on top, together with PARE KO of the Eraserheads, undoubtedly the song that defined the band, the decade, and the youth of that time. The band also revolutionized Pinoy music, which ultimately made them the most popular band ever to grace the Pinoy music scene since we don't know who. They are unprecedented, and because they are one of a kind, I'll throw in votes for With a Smile, Huling El Bimbo and my fave Eraserheads song - Minsan as well.

I'd vote for Mga Kababayan Ko by Francis M. and also Cold Summer Nights, the former because it's a rap classic that paved the way for pinoy rappers to come out of the woodwork and the latter because it's like a breath of fresh air when it came out.

Perfect is a quintessential True Faith hit. That's their first number 1 song and arguably the song that defined who they really are. Huwag Na lang kaya is also a great number hit 1 by the band, and I'll vote for that as well.

Sana'y Maulit Muli by Gary V is a veritable classic that wouldn't even tire of being revived and played on the airwaves. That gets my vote as well.

The two number 1 hits of After Image - Next In Line and Habang May Buhay - get my vote as well.

Here are the others:
Rachel Alejandro's Paalam Na, Kay Tagal
Oldies: Manila, aawitin mo isasayaw ko, don't know what to do, nakapagtataka, ipagpatawad mo, bakit ba ganyan, --> these songs WON"T DIE! and they deserve to be in the countdown.

Jamie Rivera's Mahal Naman Kita and Falling
Agot's Number 1 hit: Everyday

Ill think of some more...

Do you plan to do a survery for Pinoy films? Please do so!

Thanks!

Dear Follow Blogger,
Greetings of Peace! You may call me RAZC. I have terrible news for all of you. Once again, Our Country is put to shame. If you have not watched Constantine starring Keanu Reeves and released by Warner bros picture company. Please do so.
At the beginning of the film, where Reeves makes his appearance, you will see a girl being possessed by a Demon. As the Reeve’s character (John Constantine), tries to exorcise the girl she says the words “papatayin natin sila” or papatayin natin silang lahat.”
In other words it’s like saying that the Filipino Language is that of the Devil’s. I was offended so much by that scene tat it ruined the entire movie for me. I wrote a Blog about it. Although I wrote it in a violent way, please forgive me, I wish you would take time to react about it and write something on your pages. Spreading things like this would eventually raise consciousness that as a race we have been once again maligned in a dastardly way.
Help me. This is a stand we must take for our culture. Watch the film and react to it. You have the choice to react for or against the Film but in any way please react. Check out my blog at www.glimpseofmyreality.blogspot.com
More power to all of you!

Forward this letter if you may to as many people as possible

Kris: That was from a long time ago, and it hasn't been updated in ages. (People just e-mailed me their responses -- that was when I had a lot more time.) But thanks for your comments!

Tania: aargh -- I took the file down because I was running out of space on my server. But thanks for linking to me -- once the current mp3 downloads are over, I'll repost it.
